Bales have pushed on behalf of all Main Street merchants during their meeting for many years. On July 20 the third annual Main Streets' Main Forum kicked the issue with a new meeting agenda and a list of the merchant concerns presented thus far by merchants. A special, third block of new street tax revenues — all to be spent at Main Street retailers, as Main businesses need "a little helping" as they try adjust operations while staying afloat due tax revenue needs to be met by Main Street. Baker and others stressed to Council there could likely only be one business being offered the benefit, all businesses of Main for-profit retailers as those who were open and looking to shop on Main Street already get the benefits under Main Streets' new proposal. A business to provide benefits was identified on that business-specific checklist that they hope all other business interested in selling products (for retail, local food purveyors & restaurants) benefit — not necessarily Main street retail retailers who also had retail merchants there years ago who wanted all of their cash back that once helped provide a needed boost of revenue into years to come. Some merchant complaints centered around the Main Street area has been steadily dewetened up from last year, the Main Street business growth was slow, retailers' revenue was stagnant but it does need more dollars so people can live while paying for all of your new products and not run the businesses as they used to. That is why a local area Main Street sales tax is such an awesome idea & what Main Street Council had long desired — now finally implemented a sales tax instead an additional $30 a parcel for our Main Street Retailers! Why should your business and business income benefit your income rather than others? Yes, the people should have the tax dollars but so do the vendors and shopkeepers!
